Trying (unsuccessfully) to install Cabin Air Filter into RHD HZJ105 Landcruiser

Toyota Australia imports them as a commercial vehicle. Even the Lexus is a commercial vehicle. This means no cabin filters. Ahh well, not much dust in Oz…..

  1. Nice post! These are important things to keep in mind, it’s typically simple to forget concerning the straightforward things after you get consumed by a project.

  2. This problem is easy to solve. I did it yesterday. The filter is twice as long as the space as you have discovered. By the way you need two filters. One goes in first and you push it down and the other goes in next and slides in on top.

Just get a hacksaw and cut the back end of the filter off right up close to the middle join. Cut the plain end off as you need the finger grips end intact. Ensure that you keep the plastic frame intact. Next use a Stanley knife to really trim the rough edge where you have cut – cutting away the surplus filter material and really smoothing the back end of the frame as you have only 1mm or so of tolerance.

Then they both slip in just beautifully. Remember – push the bottom one down but leave the finger grip protrude.

    Regards

    Nick

  3. What is a part number of filter cover on the first photo?

    thanks!

  4. Hi Paul,

Did you try cutting the filter as suggested by Nick?

Am thinking of ordering the following for my FZJ105 – don’t know if it will fit however.

88891-60050 No. 2 Cooler Cover (filter access door)
    88891-60030 No. 1 Cooler Cover
88568-60010 (x2) Air Filters (Seem to have existed for the HDJ101)

  5. That would only cover 50% of the A/C and air would take the easier path so probably only filter 25% of the air whilst unbalancing the evaporator.
